Lil Durk is the founder and lead member of the collective and record label Only The Family (OTF). Lil Durk, a Chicago-based rapper, must enjoy competition because he has chosen arguably the most ambitious release date for his upcoming new album. Durk chose to release it on the same day as Kanye West’s new album.

Lil Durk has been teasing the release of his new album, 7220, for several months. Following his country-crossover collaboration with Morgan Wallen on “Broadway Girls” a few weeks ago, it appears that Smurk has entered album mode, revealing the release date of 7220 on Twitter on Sunday night, February 6.

“My album drop same day as YE 2/22/22,” Durk wrote online, revealing that the album will be released on February 22. While most new music is released on Fridays, this will be a throwback, taking us back a few years and bringing us back to New Music Tuesdays. While this is an unusual move for both Ye and Durk given their prominence in the music industry, Ye has previously acknowledged the significance of this date for him.

“According to the stars, the United States is finally getting a spiritual makeover with its first-ever Pluto Return on Feb. 22, 2022. Astrologically, a Pluto return is when the heavenly body returns to the same position in a birth chart where it was when the chart began.”

While Durk hasn’t confirmed that he’ll be releasing his album on the same day for the same reason, fans are not complaining about two of the industry’s most trusted names releasing new studio albums on the same day.
