Dave Chappelle getting attacked during a comedy set draws a lot of similarities to what unfolded at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. However, assailants in both the cases were treated differently by Hollywood. Howard Stern recently called out this hypocrisy in a big way.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Howard Stern Show, Stern addressed the situation how Chapelle recently attacked on-stage received much different reaction from Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.

“This guy jumped up on stage and attacked Dave Chappelle,” Stern said “As soon as that happened, did they let him go back to his seat and laugh and sit next to his wife and then give them an award? No! They took him backstage, they broke his arms and hands so bad. They f-cking beat the shit out of him.”

Stern continued, “Unlike the Academy Awards, Jamie Foxx came running out on stage and helped Dave Chappelle. At the Academy Awards, everyone came over and consoled Will Smith — because it was live television and Hollywood didn’t know what to do about Will Smith.”

It’s not like Will Smith didn’t have to face consequences for Oscars fiasco, but they were mild compared to what happened with Chappelle’s attacker. Stern believes that the King Richard actor didn’t deserve an Oscar after that incident.

“Listen! You don’t treat Will Smith any different than they did the Chappelle attacker,” Stern said on Wednesday’s episode. “The audience at the Oscars gave Will Smith a standing ovation after the attack, that’s the truth. It’s on film, it’s not fake news. They didn’t break Will’s hands, they shook them and it’s wrong and they all should be ashamed of themselves.”

Mostly importantly, Stern is angry at the fact that Chappelle was defended by friends present at the show and Chris Rock wasn’t. Both the incidents were quite shocking, but the hypocrisy that followed sparked a lot of debates. Let’s also not forget that Busta Rhymes and Jamie Foxx beat the tar out of that dude after his stunt at the Hollywood Bowl and Will Smith got to return to his seat and win an award later.
