Dave Chappelle enjoys making his audience laugh. However, it appears that artists are not safe these days and their safety is in jeopardy in some way. Following the attack on Dave Chappelle, the Laugh Factory recently beefed up security.

The Laugh Factory, one of Los Angeles’ standup comedy hotspots, is beefing up security in response to the attack on Dave Chappelle and the Oscars snub. According to TMZ, not only has the legendary comedy venue on Sunset Blvd. put up a poster in support of Dave, but they’re also going to tremendous efforts to protect comics after what happened during Dave’s show at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night.

Suddenly an assailant stormed the stage and leaped at Dave, smashing him to the ground before racing around the platform. Then he was caught and got the stuffing kicked out of him. The man wielded a toy rifle with a genuine knife attached.

The Laugh Factory’s new security strategy includes more security personnel both inside and outside the venue, as well as plainclothes guards in the audience who are tasked with preventing anyone from rushing the stage. Dave’s assailant managed to get the gun/knife past metal detectors at the Hollywood Bowl, and the Laugh Factory is now deploying a metal detector at the front door for the first time ever.

The Laugh Factory held a staff meeting after the Chappelle attack, with management blaming the occurrence on Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars, perceiving it as a copycat effect, paired with Will’s lack of criminal charges. The Hollywood Bowl had already planned to shore up security following the Oscars event, but the attack on Tuesday pushed the plan into motion right away.

The Laugh Factory has taken all the preventive steps needed to escape any security issue. What do you think, what was the fault of the security in this attack? Let us know in the comments. For further updates stay tuned to Thirsty.
