Dave Chappelle was lucky to not be seriously injured or worse after a man rushed the stage during a recent performance. The attacker was quickly subdued and found to be carrying a fake gun with a knife attached. 23-year-old Isaiah Lee was charged with felony assault and was being held on $30,000 bail.

TMZ has now reported that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has downgraded that felony charge. The case will now be passed to the city, where Lee will only face a misdemeanor charge. No reason was given for the change.

As Dave Chappelle was performing his stand-up routine at the Hollywood Bowl, Lee jumped onto the stage. Several people immediately took him down. The attacker broke his arm and suffered several facial contusions in the scuffle.

Chappelle was back at it just hours later. Dave cracked jokes about the attempted assault. He seems like he is doing just fine.

The rest of the comedy world is feeling a little nervous. The Laugh Factory has beefed up security in the wake of the incident. Howie Mandel is now terrified to perform on stage.

Perhaps the beating that Isaiah Lee took was enough for prosecutors to give him a break. Details are still pouring in each day, so it may take some time to have a clearer picture of Lee’s motivations and intentions. The important thing is that nobody was injured or killed during this reckless attack.
