John Cena has become an up-and-coming Hollywood superstar. Having starred in two of the biggest blockbusters of 2021 (F9 & The Suicide Squad) as well as a Hulu buddy comedy Vacation Friends. The film even became one of the most watched Hulu exclusives.
The WWE superstar even scored his own HBO Max’s series for his The Suicide Squad character, Peacemaker. While the trailer for the series is out, Cena is in talks to star in the movie “Freelance,” which is going to be a project of the ‘Taken’ director Pierre Morel.
‘Freelance’ looks to be a promising flick as it is marked for a healthy budget of $40 million. The film’s official description states that a retired army professional decides to do a security gig, where things go sound and he must survive along with his client through the thick and thin.
[Freelance] follows a special forces operator (Cena) who decides to retire from the Army and start a family back in the states. After several years of mortgage payments, school drop-offs, backyard barbecues and trying to conform to life in suburbia, he decides to come out of retirement to take a gig providing security for a female journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator who may or may not have ordered the attack on him and his men. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to escape into the jungle where they must survive the elements, the military and one another.
The project is slated to be available to major studios at the November 1st’s upcoming American Film Market. After getting the studio-backing, the project will start production in Columbia in 2022. With Cena’s movie career being a massive success, he might do more projects for the next few years.
