In their continuing effort to present as a mainstream form of beloved Americana, WWE is pushing for their fans to nominate John Cena for a People’s Choice Award. A tweet from WWE’s official account this afternoon included a call for fans to nominate Cena for Male Movie Star of the Year.

Included in the tweet was a link where fans can vote for their favorite performers in various categories. The People’s Choice Awards are unique in that the fans get to choose the winners.

Cena’s been all over the place lately. Most recently, he made a surprise SNL appearance in a sketch with Kim Kardashian. Earlier this year, Cena gave a well-received performance as Peacemaker in the D.C. Comics superhero movie The Suicide Squad.

The role in The Suicide Squad led Cena to sign on for a standalone Peacemaker television series. Honestly, Cena seems like he can’t be stopped.

Also included in the vote-seeking thread by WWE were appeals to their fans to nominate SmackDown and Raw for TV Show of the Year and Miz and Mrs. as Reality Show of the Year. The lengthy thread also asks fans to nominate Bianca Belair, the Bellas, and Miz for awards of their own.

Surely, there would be no greater thrill for WWE than to have their stars start taking home mainstream awards. The fact that they must ask fans to do so, rather than fans enthusiastically and spontaneously doing so speaks volumes.

Does John Cena deserve a People’s Choice Award? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
