With the news of Roe v. Wade being overturned by the US Supreme Court earlier today, many people all across the world have had a difficult day on June 24. While states like Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Arkansas have already taken steps to outlaw abortions and make them illegal.

California has taken action to defend abortion rights in the hours following the ruling 6-3. All-day long, responses have been flooding social media, from former president Barack Obama, who tweeted, to Keke Palmer, who couldn’t help but express her displeasure.

“Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, but it also relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues – attacking the essential freedoms to millions of Americans,”

“I’m past disgusted [with] my country and their constant inability to protect one another’s right and keep their word. How [you] overturning the wrong things? So many things to overturn that make sense. But this is what you choose?”

While many well-known people have been posting heartfelt messages and petitions, “About Damn Time” hitmaker Lizzo has pledged to contribute a sizable portion of the proceeds from her upcoming tour to defending abortion rights in America. The native of Detroit tweeted earlier today, stating that Live Nation had agreed to match her, bringing the total raised to a staggering $1 million.

“I’d pledging $500K from my upcoming tour to Planned Parenthood and Abortion Rights.”

Lizzo vowed, “We are going to give proceeds to @AbortionFunds as well!” when a supporter encouraged her to make sure that all the money went to abortion funds directly.
