The United States Supreme Court appears poised to overturn the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision shortly. Several states have already passed laws that would ban abortion outright if and when that decision is made official. One major corporation is now stepping up to make sure their employees have access to safe and legal abortions.

TMZ reported that Starbucks will offer to pay travel expenses to any worker that has to travel more than 100 miles from their home to get an abortion. The company has expressed concern over the anticipated Roe vs. Wade decision. An executive noted that the company will always be committed to providing safe, quality healthcare to its workers.

“Like many of you, I’m deeply concerned by the draft Supreme Court opinion related to the constitutional right to abortion that was first established by Roe v. Wade.

I know this is weighing on many of you, so let me be clear up front — regardless of what the Supreme Court ends up deciding, we will always ensure our partners have access to quality healthcare. And when actions impact your access to healthcare, we will work on a way to make sure you feel supported.”

The coffee giant will cover travel expenses for any of its 240,000 employees to access a legal abortion. The company is also including gender-affirming procedures in its policy. Starbucks employees can feel secure that they will get the healthcare they need.

At least 26 states plan on severely restricting or banning abortion if Roe is overturned. Many will have to travel a great distance to find access to legal reproductive health care. Starbucks is doing what it can to make that as easy as possible.
