Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s ugly stories keep surfacing one after another. The angry ex-lovers are presently locked in a vicious legal battle in Virginia. Johnny denied being abusive to Amber and filed a defamation case against her. She has filed a $100 million countersuit and all of that is playing out in court. It seems that case has America’s attention more than the ongoing situation with the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade.

The defamation case involving actors and former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has suddenly surpassed some of the country’s largest and most serious news issues, such as the leaked Supreme Court ruling and Russia’s war in Ukraine. While political America waits for the Supreme Court’s decision on abortion, the Depp-Heard trial is attracting a lot of attention.

According to exclusive statistics from News Whip, news pieces about the trial, which began April 12th, have generated more total social media interactions than coverage about abortion and the Supreme Court or inflation. The trial has outnumbered all other big news stories on a per-article basis.

According to Google Trends data, Amber Heard has received twice as many Google searches as Elon Musk in the last month. Her name has been searched nearly four times more than abortion or the Supreme Court. The occasion is being treated as if it were their Super Bowl.

The trial has gone popular on social media, thanks to courtroom cameras that capture every moment for public viewing and are rapidly turned into viral memes and snippets on the internet. Courtroom dramas, particularly those involving celebrities, have long been popular in the United States, but this one stands out as the first big trial to go viral in the TikTok age.
