Derek Chauvin’s Mother Condemns Prison Authorities After Stabbing Incident

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer sentenced to 22-and-a-half years for the murder of George Floyd, was recently stabbed in prison. This happened at the Federal Correctional Institute in Tucson, Arizona – which definitely shocked people. That said, Chauvin’s mother has now condemned prison authorities after her son got stabbed.

According to TMZ, Derek Chauvin’s family expressed anger after learning from the media that their imprisoned son was stabbed there. Carolyn Pawlenty, Chauvin’s mother, voiced her frustration, questioning how news outlets were aware of the incident before the family.

“How the hell do these news agencies know and his own mother doesn’t even know?

I can’t even think what to say. I haven’t been to bed and made a path in my kitchen and living room floor by pacing.”

She disclosed that the prison had an emergency contact number, which was hers, but no one from the prison informed her about the stabbing. Chauvin’s attorney, Bill Mohrman, attempted to gather information by calling the prison but has reportedly received no response.

Another lawyer, Gregory M. Erickson, criticized prison officials, suggesting that the lack of communication indicated a poorly run facility and raised concerns about how the assault on Chauvin took place.

‘”It appears to be indicative of a poorly run facility and indicates how Derek’s assault was allowed to happen.

How the family members who are in charge of Derek’s decisions regarding his personal medical care and his emergency contact were not informed after his stabbing further indicates the institution’s poor procedures and lack of institutional control.”

Chauvin is reported to be in stable condition after undergoing “life-saving” measures by prison doctors. The assault was allegedly carried out by another inmate, but there have been no updates on Chauvin’s condition, so we’ll have to see if he will make a full recovery after the stabbing incident.
