The next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers will have a huge task before them. Frank Vogel was unable to get his team of star players on the same page. LeBron James and company embarrassingly failed to qualify for this year’s NBA Playoffs.

Vogel was fired by the team immediately after the season ended. The search for the next head man now seems focused on one individual. Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers seems to be the main target in LA.

The Sixers were completely outclassed by the Miami Heat, who eliminated them from championship contention last night. James Harden struggled to find his game and Philadelphia was unceremoniously dumped. The team could be moving on from Rivers.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Lakers are watching the situation in Philadelphia closely. If Rivers is fired, the Lakers will be very interested. If not, LA will have to keep looking.

Doc Rivers got his start as an NBA head coach in 1990 with the Orlando Magic. He eventually moved on to jobs with Boston, the LA Clippers, and finally landed in Philadelphia in 2020. With Boston, Rivers defeated the Lakers in the NBA finals in 2008.

Big changes are in store for the Lakers next season. Doc Rivers could be the perfect man to right the ship. That all depends on whether the Sixers have seen enough.
