As hip-hop continues to grow into a more versatile genre, where each sub-genre can be very different from another, its popularity continues to grow as well. Hip-hop has now gained a lot of popularity in the United States by overtaking pop and it looks like it will continue to grow in the future.
On March 10, Chart Data released the Top 10 artists of 2022 on the basis of their genres. Seven out of these ten rappers are rap artists but there are also other artists who occupy completely different lanes of hip-hop.
The top five artists on the list have all surpassed the 1 billion stream mark and it’s just the beginning of 2022. Of course, on number one there’s Drake, with 1.4 billion streams, followed by NBA YoungBoy on No.2 with 1.3 billion streams and No. 5 Juice WRLD has posthumously recorded 1.1 billion streams in 2022.
In the 5-10 spots, Kanye West sits at No. 6 with Donda, with 840 million streams. Eminem has the 7th spot with 710 million streams and Kodak Black and Rod Wave come in at No. 8 and 9 with both of them having around 660 million streams.
