The Washington Football Team officially became the Washington Commanders this morning. The team announced the change via a media blitz. The new choice of name has been met with a ton of ridicule.

NFL fans were expecting something flashier. The new team logo isn’t too different from the one used when the franchise was known as the Washington Football Team. The announcement hasn’t gone over as well as the team had hoped.

Fans on social media blasted the team for their choice. They also dragged the Washington franchise for being bad at football. It was a perfect combination for online trolls to get their shots in on a struggling organization. The fact that the name can be shortened to “Commies” hasn’t helped.

“Seize the means of touchdown production #GoCommies #TakeCommand”

“Go Commies!”

“The only thing they will command is last place in the East”

“let’s not focus on whether the Washington Commanders is a good name but instead focus on the fact a red and yellow team located in Washington DC named itself something that can be shortened to Commies focus on the hilarious aspect of NO ONE realizing this over 2 years”

Fans will have to get used to the new name. It took two years to come up with it. Some online trolling won’t be likely to convince the front office to change course now. Commanders merch is already showing up in stores around the DC area.
