Tyler Perry couldn’t hold back his emotions as he opened up about his late mother, Willie Maxine Perry, during an emotional moment on “The View.”

Tyler appeared on the daytime talk show to discuss his new documentary, “Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story,” which delves into his life and is named in honor of his mother, who passed away in 2009 after a long battle with illness.

Sara Haines, one of “The View” co-hosts, had watched the documentary and praised Tyler for embodying the values she’s learned through faith and spirituality. She described him as “amazing” and mentioned that she felt like she had “met Maxine” through the film, someone she didn’t know before. This revelation visibly moved Tyler.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Tyler responded, “OK, wait a minute. … You met my mother through [the doc]? Wow. Thank you.” Tears welled up in his eyes as he continued, “To say that you met her through that, that takes me somewhere because she — this woman endured so much pain and she didn’t have some legacy, but she had me.”

He choked back tears and added, “To say that I was able to introduce her to you — you got me there, man. I’m sorry. … Lord, have mercy.”

Sara Haines thanked Tyler for sharing his mother with the public and began discussing Tyler’s tumultuous childhood marked by trauma. However, Tyler interrupted, still moved by Haines’ earlier remarks.

“You really got me there,” he said. “I’m sorry. I need to get myself together.”

The touching moment on “The View” brought tears to Haines’ eyes as well, and Whoopi Goldberg passed her a package of tissues.

Tyler went on to reflect on his mother’s life, describing her as a woman who endured pain and was always concerned about others’ happiness. He watched her battle illness and cancer, and he shared that she never thought of herself as important or believed that anyone would care about her. Tyler expressed deep gratitude that the documentary introduced his mother to the world, as she meant the world to him.

Viewers across social media couldn’t help but gush over the “beautiful” and “powerful” moment that Tyler Perry and Sara Haines shared on the show.
