The Legend of Zelda was first released for the Nintendo console in 1986 and has since become one of the most popular games in history. The game has garnered a loyal fanbase over the years. It now looks like those same fans are in for a treat.

The Legend of Zelda video game franchise is set to make its debut on the big screens. The game will move to movie theaters for a live-action movie. The new film will be directed by Wes Ball who also directed The Maze Runner and the upcoming coming movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The creator of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, took to X to announce the exciting news for the fans and revealed that the film is currently in development.

“This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films,” he said. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Although an official timeline hasn’t been provided, fans of the video game franchise will be excited to know that the movie is in development. This isn’t Nintendo’s first attempt to bring one of their video games to the big screen.

They released The Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier this year which earned $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Hence, it will be interesting to see if Legend of Zelda will be able to become a box office hit.
