Dustin Poirier made a name for himself in MMA, but at this stage in his career, he could be at a crossroads. The dangers and uncertainty of the MMA life can’t last forever. At this stage in his career, he needs a fighter worth his time and energy as well.

Dustin Poirier is in search of an appealing opponent. His recent foe, Justin Gaethje, proved to be just that. However, Poirier (29-8 MMA, 21-7 UFC) suffered a knockout loss in their “BMF” title match at UFC 291 in July, despite having won their initial 2018 bout by TKO, which was a highlight of the year.

The former interim lightweight champion is currently without specific objectives and patiently waiting for the right opportunity to arise. He intends to maintain his weight in check until he receives the call he’s waiting for.

While speaking to MMA Mania, Dustin Poirier stated that his career is “high risk, high reward.” That being said, he is uncertain about the next stage of his career.

“What I do is high risk, high reward, and anything can happen on any night. But I knew that going into this fight. That’s the reason I accepted this fight. I knew that he’s a dangerous opponent, and I knew anything can happen and that got me up in the morning. That’s what fighting is.”

“I don’t really have a whole lot of plans. I’m just kind of sitting back, training, trying to remain a student, and when the phone rings with the right name, I’ll know it’s the one. We’ll take it from there. I’m not trying to over-plan or have this comeback story or anything like that.

“I’m just trying to get better, and when they call with the right one that excites me, that’s dangerous, that wakes me up and really makes me want to give this 100 percent – it’s not that I don’t give it 100 percent (already) – but something that really, really motivates me, (I’ll take it).”

We will have to see what Dustin Poirier does next in his career, because he could have options on the table. A man with his charisma could also see himself in many avenues of the business.

Let’s get to know each other. Me? Well, I have a master’s degree in Journalism from Marshall University, but I don’t really like to talk about that. I was a stand-up comedian for eight years, but I don’t really like to talk about that either. I write a lot. I once worked for a company that writes blurbs for online gambling games. Those paid $.75 each. So, if you frequent that kind of thing, then you’re welcome for the description for Biker Chicken Slots or Crazy Granny’s Scratchers. I wish I had more to tell, but due to my crippling anxiety and Tourette’s Syndrome, that has become increasingly worse over the years, I tend to keep to myself.
