As Swifties are aware, we are currently living in 2022 (Taylor’s Version). Taylor Alison Swift, the talented songwriter, has spent the last two years releasing emotional turmoil with one album launch after another as she unleashed surprise lockdown albums and re-records of her masters. Not to mention, she’s releasing her new album Midnights this week.

John Mayer certainly hopes he could “stop this train.” Swifties, aka Twitter fans, are chasing the crooner as a result of Taylor Swift’s new bonus track on “Midnights,” “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.” “At 19, and the God’s honest truth is that the pain was heaven/ And now that I’m grown, I’m scared of ghosts/ Memories feel like weapons/ And now that I know, I wish you left me wondering,” Swift sings.

If you never touched me, I would’ve gone along with the righteous/ If I never blushed, then they could’ve never whispered about this/ And if you never saved me from boredom, I could’ve gone on as I was/ But lord you made me feel important, and then you tried to erase us.

Swift’s followers had a field day with the apparent attack on her ex-boyfriend more than a decade later. “John Mayer, be scared,” tweeted one Swiftie. “Damn I wish John mayer was still with us, I know my guy would’ve absolutely loved this website if he was alive today. RIP,” tweeted another.

“JOHN MAYER COUNT YOUR F–KING DAYS!!!!” tweeted another. “john mayer you better start running,” tweeted another user. “john mayer is never seeing heaven for this (she was 19, he was 32. THIRTY. TWO.),” wrote another. This isn’t the first time the “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” singer has been targeted by admirers of his ex.

Mayer reacted to a Swift fan who told him to “die” last year. “f–k yourself you ugly b*tch i hope you choke on something <3,” the Swiftie named Alondra wrote in a message to Mayer. The persistent user later messaged the “New Light” singer again, writing, “answer me you b*tch.”

Seemingly having had enough, Mayer responded, writing, “Hi Alondra, it’s John. I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days. I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screen shot, share in any way you like if you want.” He continued, “I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?” Alondra then wrote back, “OMG WHAT i don’t want you to DIE” along with a 30-second voice note with audio that doesn’t appear to have been released.

Mayer and Swift dated from 2009 to 2010, when he was 32 and she was 19. Her “Speak Now” song “Dear John” is widely assumed to be about him. Let’s see if John responds to this. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
