Kevin Spacey is best known for starring roles in American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, Se7en and House Of Cards. Spacey was at the forefront of celebrities getting the #MeToo treatment at the height of its trend. Kevin Spacey and his production companies have been recently ordered to make up damages caused by his firing for allegedly assaulting staff workers.
According to The Guardian, the actor is ordered to pay the creators of House of Cards around $31 million. The judgement upholds an award made in favor of the production companies behind the well-liked Netflix series by a private arbitrator last year. In 2017, Spacey was let go from the series following several allegations of sexual misconduct.
The Hollywood actor was required to pay the amount to independent production company Media Rights Capital Back in November, after “explosive” allegations of sexual misbehavior involving teenage cast members of the show. He requested that the judgement be set aside, but Los Angeles judge Mel Recana denied his request.
After allegations that he was systematically preying upon, sexually harassing, and groping young men that he had worked with throughout his career on film, television, and theater projects, Spacey was fired from House of Cards, according to the original filings from MRC that the PA agency obtained. The arbitrator came to the conclusion that Spacey had frequently disregarded his contractual obligations to carry out his work professionally and in accordance with all of MRC’s reasonable guidelines, practices, and rules, including those pertaining to harassment.
The actor played the calculating Frank Underwood for five seasons of House of Cards before being fired from the series after the claims came to light. The arbitrator initially determined that Spacey was not entitled to compensation for the remaining time on his contract because his firing had resulted in the sixth season of the show being cut short and rewritten, which cost MRC millions in lost income.
