“A League of Their Own” became an instant classic among baseball movies upon its release in 1992. The movie told the story of an all-women’s professional baseball league that took the field during World War 2. Amazon is working on a new series based on the story, and they recently announced a release date and dropped the first trailer.

The story takes place in 1943 when the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was created. The idea was to keep baseball’s popularity up while the men fought overseas. While the movie focused on the Rockford Peaches, the new Amazon series will tell the story of a different team.

Abbi Jacobson created the series and will also serve as its star. Jacobson will be joined by teammates played by Kelly McCormack, Priscilla Delgado, Chanté Adams, and others. Rosie O’Donnell, who played one of the Rockford players in the movie, is also slated as a guest star.

The tone for the new show is set in its trailer. Stevie Nicks’ classic tune, “Edge of Seventeen” plays as several highlights from the show play. Women take on the traditional roles of men as they fight the war. Backyard barbecues, factories, and of course, the baseball diamond, are now the domain of these groundbreaking ladies.
