Johnny Depp has received massive public support both during and after his defamation trial with Amber Heard. Fans gathered outside the courthouse and around the world to show their support for the actor after winning his case. The right-wing is now co-opting the courtroom drama to further their agenda.

A Virginia jury awarded Johnny Depp $15 million in the case. After a weeks-long media circus, the court’s opinion matched that of the public. To many right-wing political figures, this was an opportunity to flip the script and once again attack evil liberals.

Donald Trump Jr. was one of the leaders of the new movement. He took to Twitter to mock the verdict. According to Trump, the decision was the end of the “Me Too” movement.

“Believe all women… except Amber Heard.

She’s just that terrible!”

Meghan McCain, a conservative and former co-host of ‘The View’ was more direct in her statement. She declared the #MeToo movement dead in a since-deleted tweet. Several others joined her in their short-sighted declaration of the death of the phenomenon, but not before being roundly mocked for doing so.
