Tragedy struck recently as 19 children and 2 adults were shot dead after a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. According to Governor Greg Abbott, the shooter was an 18-year-old student from Uvalde High School. This unspeakable horror has also resulted in a huge increase in the sale of bulletproof backpacks.

According to TMZ, former Secret Service agent, Mike De Geus, is the founder and CEO of Leatherback Gear. He stated that his company has seen an 800% spike in sales for their fortified backpacks since the tragic shooting.

Mike said that the backpacks offer the same level of protection as the bulletproof armour he used for the likes of Presidents Trump, Obama, Bush and Clinton. It was said that most of the sales are for a $249.99 Sport One Jr. backpack, which can be divided into two pieces, giving protection from both front and back.

Another bulletproof backpack manufacturer, TuffyPacks, said it has seen a surge in sales for armor inserts that can go inside any bag. Owner Steve Naremore said the products are being shipped all over the USA, with sales up 300%.

A third company, Guard Dog Security, said it has seen a huge increase in demand from consumers and retail partners who use their bulletproof bags, including even Lowe’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

In fact, the company’s president, Yasir Sheikh, said that the brand donates some of its proceeds to Make Our Schools Safe. It is an organization founded by the parents of a student killed in the 2018 Parkland shooting in Florida. We certainly hope such an incident never happens again.
