Master P is celebrating “Cannabis Freedom Day” in a huge way. The No Limit mogul will be performing with several other stars from his legendary label in Norfolk, Virginia tonight. The show will be all about making a statement.

TMZ Live spoke with Master P about his advocacy for marijuana. P said he thinks it is ridiculous that people around the country are incarcerated for small amounts of a harmless plant. The practice, he notes, is destroying entire communities.

“Cannabis Freedom Day is 5/20. We have a concert in Virginia. It’s all about Cannabis Freedom Day. It’s about letting people out of prison that has a small case of marijuana, from $50 to $100 worth of marijuana. These guys shouldn’t be incarcerated.”

Tonight’s freedom fest will feature performances by Master P, Mystikal, Silkk Tha Shocker, Mia X, Juvenile, and many more. The goal is to start pressuring states to follow the lead of California and release non-violent pot offenders. As marijuana becomes less stigmatized, Master P believes those already incarcerated should get a second chance.

The famed New Orleans rapper also hopes to see more black representation in the legal cannabis industry. 34 states have already decriminalized, and he sees that as an opportunity for those with criminal records due to weed to find meaningful work. Master P is doing what he can to advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves.

The big show in Norfolk might be just the start. It looks like Master P is poised to become a major public advocate for the cause. A lot of people will also have a chance to experience a very rare throwback to one of rap’s most unique eras.
