Elon Musk is one of the world’s richest person. Despite becoming the most successful business mogul in recent memory, it appears that Tesla’s CEO is still a mama’s boy. Elon Musk’s mother recently came forth to protect her son against trolls, but now she is the one being trolled.

Elon Musk’s name has been routinely trending on Twitter since announcing his Twitter takeover, as his strange commentary and bizarre business discussions play out in public, via erratic Twitter postings and poop emojis. Musk’s current fight is against spambots, which he claims account for a larger proportion of Twitter users than the company admits.

Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, an author, dietician, and model, took her son’s accusation extremely seriously. She started scanning Twitter for accounts that made derogatory remarks about her billionaire son, labeling them as possible bots and declaring them “nasty.”

It’s strange enough to witness one of the world’s wealthiest men regularly post “dad jokes” on Twitter, but Musk’s mother engaging with anonymous, low-follower accounts that dare to mock her son could be weirder and unfortunately, just magnifies the interaction of these accounts. Naturally, Twitter trolls were interested and offered their opinions.

Despite the union-busting billionaire’s penchant for garnering controversy and criticism, Maye Musk didn’t stop there, digging down on her suspicion that Elon Musk’s “cyberbullying” was astroturfed. Maye Musk unintentionally spawned a new hashtag, #PoorElon, which encouraged users to jokingly comment on how “tough” the space-fairing billionaire had it, despite her best intentions.

Maye Musk has displayed a protective streak before; after accompanying Elon Musk to the Met Gala, she blasted a parody account for circulating suspicions about his love life. Rather endearingly, Maye Musk also berated her son for cracking a morbid joke. As #PoorElon grew in popularity, Elon Musk stirred even more outrage by tweeting that the “woke mind virus” may wipe out human civilization, mimicking right-wing culture warriors’ exaggerated fever dreams.

Despite Maye Musk’s fears, her kid appears to be fully capable of generating controversy and “nasty” remarks without the assistance of sneaky Twitter bots. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
