Dave Chappelle needs no introduction as he has established himself as one of the most successful stand-up comedians of all time. In spite of that, he is also a controversial figure, largely due to his Netflix special, ‘The Closer.’ New footage of Chappelle recently surfaced which showed him commenting on Will Smith’s Oscars fiasco.

Earlier this month, a man rushed the stage during a performance of Dave Chappelle’s at the Hollywood Bowl. In the end, 23-year-old Isaiah Lee was charged with felony assault and locked up with a $30,000 bond amount.

The incident took place weeks before another huge fiasco during the Oscars. Will Smith shockingly slapped Chris Rock following a joke about Smith’s wife. This led to a lot of backlash from fans and celebrities alike.

As revealed by new footage, Dave Chappelle had a bit about the Oscars debacle during his stand-up routine before he was tackled. Chappelle stated that Smith slapping Rock and going on to enjoy the rest of his evening was ‘gangster.’

Chappelle also addressed people who said Smith wouldn’t touch the Half Baked star like that. Dave Chappelle simply said, “Shut the f*ck up, you gonna get me slapped!”

Terry Crews also previously said that Chris Rock’s reaction to Will Smith’s slap saved Hollywood. It is unlikely such an incident will ever happen again either.

Ironically, Dave Chappelle also dealt with his own rude interruption during a comedy routine. We’ll have to see which comedian gets a pummeling next, but this could be a growing, and very sad trend, developing in front of our eyes.
