Ulta Beauty is facing a firestorm of negative social media attention after accidentally referencing the death of designer Kate Spade in a recent marketing email. The company was doing a collaboration with the brand, but things went horribly wrong. The headline of the email inadvertently referenced the method by which Kate Spade passed away.

The public took to Twitter to blast Ulta Beauty for being so tone deaf. Many are baffled as to how it was possible to make such a thoughtless mistake. The headline read, “Come hang with Kate Spade and get $15 off.”

“My husband said that if even HE knew about Kate Spade’s passing that obviously the people at Ulta should as well..”

“ULTA is wrong for this…. Kate Spade literally died from hanging herself…”

“Whoever wrote the incredibly crass email headline at Ulta for the Kate Spade event yesterday also managed to do it on the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month. An ignominious start by demonstrating the carelessness people tend to have around this topic.”

Ulta Beauty has not commented on the mistake on their social media accounts. The company will likely have to apologize for the crass marketing mishap. That may not be enough to bring back the many ticked off customers who reacted angrily to the email.
