Tesla CEO Elon Musk is now the new owner of Twitter. Many people are happy about it as he has promised to reinstate free speech on the platform. However, Democrat senates are considering to drag him to testify about his plans with the social media site.
Musk closed the deal to buy the social media giant for $44 billion and has decided to take the company private. It appears this didn’t sit well with some politicians. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., told Bloomberg, “We’re thinking about” the possibility of hearings.
Commerce Committee member Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said Twitter is “central to democracy and our economy.” The committee has previously held hearings with Mark Zuckerberg, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai as well. Now, Musk is their new target.
“We have to understand the censorship or lack thereof, content moderation or not, that is going to be the policy for the new owner,” Sen. Ed Markey told Bloomberg
While Republicans have largely applauded Musk’s takeover of Twitter, other Democratic Senates also have expressed their concerns regarding the billionaire’s purchase of the social media giant.
Musk is a staunch advocate of free speech and he looking to make the platform a medium for people to voice their opinion without the fear of suppression from the restrictive Twitter rules. World is excited to see how he Tesla CEO transforms the social media giant in coming days.
