Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal’s MMA rivalry made its way outside of the Octagon recently. The two were involved in a brawl at a Miami nightclub just weeks after Covington dispatched his opponent by decision at UFC 272. Colby is now claiming that he suffered some serious injuries in the assault.

A judge ordered Masvidal to stay away from Covington at a hearing this morning. Masvidal must keep a distance of at least 25 feet from Colby at all times. Nobody objected to the order.

TMZ followed up that report by digging up court documents related to the case. Colby Covington is claiming that Jorge Masvidal caused him “great bodily harm” in the fight. Covington says that he suffered a brain injury stemming from the incident.

Initial reports stated that Colby only broke a tooth in the fight. Brain damage is obviously a far worse injury. There is no word on how serious that injury might be.

Covington is known by MMA fans as a huge antagonizer. Many have referred to him as the legit fight game equivalent of a pro wrestling heel. Even Jake Paul has taken the bait in the past.

Time will tell if the brain injury is serious, or simply posturing by Colby Covington. For his part in the attack, Masvidal was charged with one count of felony aggravated battery and one count of felony criminal mischief. It would make sense for the rivals to settle this in the cage, but time will tell if Covington will be able to or if a court will allow it.
