The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled to find any sort of team identity this season. There has been virtually no chemistry. The Lakers have been relentlessly trolled by opponents and fans around the country. Russell Westbrook has become a polarizing figure. Time is running short for the team to make a playoff run.

LeBron James injuring his left ankle did not help matters. Anthony Davis has already been out since around Valentine’s day with a foot injury. The Lakers dropped a 122-109 decision to the Utah Jazz yesterday which dropped them to 14 games below .500.

Things are getting desperate for the Lakers’ postseason hopes, but there may be help on the way. NBA.com has reported that Davis is set to return tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans. LeBron will be a game time decision, but is expected to “give it a go.”

“Lakers star Anthony Davis plans to return Friday vs. the Pelicans, barring setback, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Davis has been sidelined since Feb. 14 due to mid-foot sprain. Big Lakers-Pelicans game with Play-In ramifications.”

The Lakers are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference standings. With each loss, the gap between them and a playoff spot is growing wider. Anthony Davis and LeBron James are hoping they can start the turnaround tonight against New Orleans.

LeBron and company were built to be a super team that can compete for a championship every season. “Competitive” may not be the optimal word choice for this team. LeBron James will keep fighting until the team is eliminated, but things are not looking good at Crypto.com Arena.
