Nicholas Cage’s participation in various film genres during the 2010s increased his popularity and earned him a cult following. Renfield, starring Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult, is a forthcoming horror comedy. It seems Nicolas Cage is becoming eerie in the streets of New Orleans.

Cage is currently filming Renfield, in which he plays the iconic vampire Dracula opposite Nicholas Hoult, who plays the titular Renfield, a henchman of the wicked monster in Bram Stoker’s original 1897 novel Dracula. Chris McKay, who directed The Tomorrow War, is directing this film.

The two performers are seen in character for the first time in on-set photographs obtained exclusively by PEOPLE, in New Orleans. Cage had pale makeup, slicked-back hair, long fingernails, and loads of bright jewelry. Between takes, Hoult appeared to be covered in blood.

In December, Cage told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast that he wants to bring “something new” to the role, which has previously been played by Bela Lugosi in the black-and-white Universal classic, Gary Oldman in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 remake, Frank Langella, Christopher Lee, Gerard Butler, and Luke Evans, among others.

I want it to pop in a unique way from how we’ve seen it played. So I’m thinking to really focus on the movement of the character. You know, I saw Malignant and I thought what she did with those moves — and even Ringu with Sadako [Yamamura]. I want to look at what we can explore with this movement and voice.

Nicolas Cage has quite some experience when it comes to marriage. He has been married 4 times before tying the knot with Riko Shibata. Cage tied the knot with his wife during a very small and intimate wedding at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas in 2021 while honoring his late father’s birthday. Now they are expecting a baby. Check out the pictures from Renfield below.
