The Weeknd is one of those performers who seems to transcend musical genres. It seems like everything he releases becomes a major phenomenon. In 2020 and 2021, The Weeknd achieved something no other artist has ever done.

The 2020 release of After Hours saw several massive hits. The dramatic music video that accompanied the intense “Starboy” kicked things off. The biggest hit from the record was “Blinding Lights,” which was the highest-charting song of the year 2020.

That success was duplicated with the next single from After Hours. “Save Your Tears” hit the top of the Billboard charts and became the biggest track of 2021. That made The Weeknd the first artist to ever have the biggest song in two consecutive years, according to HotNewHipHop.

The Weeknd could be going for a three-peat. Dawn FM was released earlier this year to a ton of critical and fan acclaim. It is entirely possible that one of the tracks from the album could match the success of his previous releases.

Dawn FM debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. It was The Weeknd’s eighth entry in the top ten. If just one of the album’s singles goes viral, we could be reaching unprecedented territory.

Time will tell if The Weeknd can pull off the insane achievement for the third time. It would likely be an incredibly difficult record to break. Even if he doesn’t, major props are due for this nearly impossible record.
