Ja Morant has answered his critics in a huge way. Just months ago, Memphis Grizzlies fans had seen enough of Morant’s game. The entire city seemed ready to run him out of town.

The NBA trade deadline came and went and Ja Morant was not moved. Memphis supporters would have to get used to Ja being a part of the team. Last night’s performance against the San Antonio Spurs may have made everything worth it.

Morant went nuclear on the Spurs as he contributed 52 points and 7 rebounds in just 34 minutes of play. In addition to the lofty numbers, the entire game felt like a highlight reel. Ja went on to break the single-game scoring record for the franchise, which the Grizzlies celebrated on Twitter.

“A night for the record books for @jamorant

52 points (franchise record)
22-30 FG (most made FGs in a single game)”

Late in the second quarter, Morant brought the house down at the FedEx Forum. Ja’s thunderous dunk made a poster out of Jakob Poeltl and put a stamp on what was obviously going to be a historic night. It was the kind of stuff that every NBA player dreams of.

Memphis is one of several Western Conference teams with championship ambitions. The Grizzlies sit one game behind the Golden State Warriors for the second seed in the conference. If Ja Morant continues this kind of play, a lot of people will be putting their money on Memphis.
