Rosie O’Donnell apologized to Priyanka Chopra for presuming Deepak Chopra was her father by accident. Dr. Ashok Chopra, the actress’s father, died in June 2013 at the age of 39.

On Sunday, the 59-year-old actress took to TikTok to clarify how she “embarrassed” herself in front of Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas, as well as her son, his girlfriend, and friend Fran Drescher, when she confused Chopra for the daughter of self-help expert Deepak Chopra.

“So when I said, ‘Hi, Nick Jonas. You were great in “Kingdom” and ‘Hi, [Priyanka]. I know your dad.’ She goes, ‘You do? Who’s my dad?’ And I’m like, ‘Deepak.’”

“She’s like, ‘No, and Chopra is a common name.’ … I felt so embarrassed,” she claimed of the encounter, which occurred at Nobu Malibu. “Nick Jonas, I apologize, and to the Chopra wife, I apologize too,” the former talk show host concluded. Many Instagram users reacted angrily to O’Donnell’s reference to the “We Can Be Heroes” actor as “the Chopra wife,” with one user saying, “If y“Maybe learn her name if you’re going to apologize.”

Shortly after, O’Donnell apologized again, clarifying some misunderstandings about Priyanka’s reaction.

“So I’m reading the comments about my [interaction with] Nick Jonas and his wife, Priyanka Chopra, who I mistakenly thought was Deepak’s daughter. People thought that she was rude. She wasn’t rude, it was just awkward. I’m sure she gets sick of that. I’m sure I’m not the only one. According to the comments, a lot of people thought that too but she’s apparently a very well-known actress and more famous than him, people were saying. So I’m sure it felt weird to her, to begin with.”

“Anyway, Priyanka is her name. Priyanka,” she continued, “I hope I’m pronouncing that right. I just want to apologize to her and to everyone who thought that it was really inappropriate of me. Sorry, sometimes I f–k up. I did at Nobu.” However, Deepak Chopra has two children, 50-year-old novelist Mallika Chopra and 46-year-old filmmaker Gotham Chopra.
