Former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista was M. Night Shyamalan’s first choice when he cast “Knock at the Cabin.” Marvel fans couldn’t picture anyone else as Drax the Destroyer. The wrestler-turned-actor has been finding himself in demand a lot more these days.

Bautista was cast in the latest adaptation of the popular sci-fi novel, Dune. Dave played Glossu Rabban, a role that he said validated his decision to leave wrestling to pursue acting. That film has now received multiple Oscar nominations.

Dave Bautista didn’t get any Academy Awards nods himself. The film cleaned house, however. Dune was nominated for ten Oscars this year:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Film Editing
  • Best Visual Effects
  • Best Makeup and Hairstyling
  • Best Original Score
  • Best Adapted Screen Play
  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Sound

The former world champion has been a part of some blockbuster film franchises. In his brief acting career, Dave Bautista has lived up to his supersized roles. Now he can say he’s acted in a film that was nominated for multiple Oscars. Dwayne Johnson might want to start looking over his shoulder, as Bautista is quickly becoming a major player in Hollywood.
