2022 has barely begun and there have already been two major album releases, The Weeknd’s “Dawn FM,” and Gunna’s “DS4EVER.” Both albums also received tremendous commercial success, but Weeknd’s sales figures are now under examination.

While many were expecting the Weeknd to take the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s albums chart with Dawn FM, in a surprising turn of events, that distinction has gone to Gunna.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Billboard reported “suspicious” sales figures as the reason for running into a delay in releasing the charts. DJ Akademiks took this to mean that Billboard was accusing The Weeknd of faking sales figures.

[why] Billboard playing wit my mans The Weeknd like [he] was faking sales or [something]?

Compared to his previous album, “After Hours,” which racked up 444K in its opening week, Dawn FM opened to a relatively modest 148K. However, The Weeknd himself seems unbothered by sales figures.

What matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times.

Regardless of the confusion regarding the sales figures, The Weeknd certainly has a point. The important thing is the music, not the sales. Check out the following post.
