Michael Strahan has transitioned from a gritty NFL defensive end to daytime talk show host flawlessly. Now, the former New York Giant has even higher ambitions. The Good Morning America host is going to space.

On today’s GMA, Strahan announced that he’ll be taking a ride on the Amazon founder’s Blue Origin rocket and heading to orbit. Strahan says he watched a previous launch of Blue Origin. It didn’t take him any time at all to say yes to the invite.

Strahan’s space odyssey will launch on December 9. In the meantime, must train at the Blue Origin facility for over a week of training. He will also meet his crewmates there for the first time in person.

Bezos recently invited Tom Hanks on one of the space flights. Hanks said he would have had to pony up $28 million for the ride. He turned Bezos down.

William Shatner also took part in a Blue Origin flight. He became the oldest person ever to go to space. The Star Trek legend said the experience was incredible.

Now, Strahan will become the first former pro football player turned talk show host in space. It’s not as neat of a distinction, but he will be one of the few earthlings to say they’ve been in orbit. You can check out Strahan’s announcement below.
