Social media is fuming over reports that Nicole Kidman and not Debra Messing has landed the role of television legend Lucille Ball in “Being the Ricardos.” Fans are calling for Debra Messing’s casting more than ever as the film dropped its first trailer.
Kidman will star alongside Javier Bardem, who’ll play Lucille Ball’s real life husband Desi Arnaz, in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming biopic on Hollywood’s power couple that ruled the television industry during the ’50s and ’60s.
It all began when the film’s official trailer dropped on YouTube this past Wednesday (Nov. 10). Viewers were quick to single out the casting decisions, especially the choice for the female lead, suggesting the filmmakers should’ve picked Messing to play the part.
“Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball makes ZERO SENSE in a world where Debra Messing exists,” one fan Tweeted. “Debra Messing was robbed of that role. She should truly play Lucille Ball. Miss me with Kidman,” another one came up with the criticism.
“Should have been Debra Messing. Period,” someone wrote. It is worth mentioning that Messing, 53, played the “I Love Lucy” actress during an episode of “Will & Grace” last year.
