Jon Gruden resigned from his position this week after leaked emails came out that didn’t put the coach in the best light at all. Racist and homophobic rhetoric was uncovered and he is no longer with the team. Gruden was also removed from Madden 22, much the chagrin of gamers.

Ex Raiders wide receiver Andre Rison has now spoken out to defend Gruden. While speaking to TMZ, he proclaimed that he knows Jon Gruden is not a racist.

Risen defended Gruden while saying that everyone says things behind closed doors that they don’t want people to hear. Apparently, Gruden was no different, because everyone makes mistakes.

“We all say some things behind closed doors that we regret or we wouldn’t say in public. We’ve all made mistakes.”

“You’ve already given this game some of the best tutelage and best leadership you could possibly give. So if you don’t ever touch the game again, don’t feel any type of way… Go on with your life and enjoy it with the rest of the Gruden family.”

Gruden resigned on October 11th after another batch of leaked emails showed more upsetting language from the former NFL coach. Despite all that, Rison believes that Gruden is a “good person” and he continued to say, “I believe who he said and what he said and who he intended it for, it was for that person and nobody else.”

We will continue monitoring this ongoing story here at Thirsty. We’ll have to see what develops from this point on, but it seems that not everyone is ready to cast Jon Gruden aside.

Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
