Vince McMahon runs WWE with an iron fist, and his word is final. He has his hands in every aspect of the product that he can. John Cena thrived in that setting and now he is succeeding in Hollywood. After working alongside James Gunn for so long, Cena can now compare Gunn to McMahon.

Collider spoke to the 16x World Champion when Cena opened up about the similarities between WWE’s Chairman and the director who brought us the Suicide Squad. They are involved in many areas of the movie, always moving around and doing their thing. Now he can see the comparisons that Gunn is much like McMahon.

“James is everything, and the reason he is such a great director is because he assumes all roles. He creates the story from the ground up, he supervises the story as a producer, he manages all personalities when he’s on set as a coach, he’s very determined in his selection process of the cast, so he’s a casting agent […] he’s meticulous on small details, so he’s wardrobe design. He’s a ridiculously intricate storyboarder, so he’s a production designer as well.”

“I think his ability to have his hands in everything—he’s almost like the Vince McMahon of a movie. Vince is involved in everything and wants to be. And I mean everything from—and this is James as well—marketing, certainly putting himself out there. ‘Suicide Squad: A James Gunn Film’, he’s putting his stamp on that which means he believes in the product, and he does that so fluently because he’s so invested in every piece of it. He has confidence it what he does,” Cena said. “He’s just too many things at once.”

John Cena is bidding James Gunn farewell, for now, as he returns to WWE. Cena is set to take part in SummerSlam, an event where he will reportedly take on Roman Reigns. WWE booked Roman Reigns in one huge match after another following his SummerSlam return. Now he is set to tangle with Cena.

The Peacemaker series for HBO Max, one which James Gunn directed, wraps up production next week. That will give John Cena enough time to take off his Peacemaker helmet and throw on some jorts for a WWE return.

What’s your take on this? Who else would you compare to Vince McMahon? Sound off in the comments!
