Khamzat Chimaev shocked the MMA world when he stepped away from the Octagon.

This is a big surprise as Chimaev was seen as one of the fastest rising stars in the UFC. The fighter with a 9-9, 3-0 UFC record announced on Monday via Instagram that he is done with the UFC.

“I want to say thank you all so much for supporting me in my journey in this sport. I think I’m done, yes I know I didn’t take the belt but it’s not the most important victory in this life. It may upset you but my heart and body tell me everything. I want to say a big thank you to my team @allstargymsweden. I want to say a big thank you to @ufc.”

He recently pulled out of a fight against Leon Edwards set for later this month. That is the second fight he’s had to pull out of after dealing with the physical affects of COVID-19.

H Jenkins

Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News opened the door for a new opportunity for Jenkins. With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
