Missy Elliott is mourning the loss of her beloved dog, Hoodie, who had been her companion for over 17 years.

In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday (November 21), Missy shared her thoughts and photos as she grieved the passing of her furry friend.

“17 and a half years old, you’ve been with me, and anyone who knows us knows it’s always been me and you,” she began. “Who would think that a pet would turn into a family member? If I left the house for 5 minutes and came back, you would make me feel like I had been gone for years the way you would run to me. I will miss you sooo much.”

Missy continued, “I’m trying to hold up, but you will no longer suffer, and I know Poncho [another pet] has been waiting for you at the rainbow bridge, and you are in good hands with him and in God’s arms. I love you forever, Hoodie. Rest Peacefully.”

“I thank y’all for talking me through such a difficult time,” she wrote. “Those who have fur babies already can imagine that pain. I am usually strong, but this hurts so much [crying emoji] but I thank each of you for the love and condolences you have sent to me [heart, dog, and prayer emojis].”
