‘Friends’ Dominates TV Streaming Charts After Matthew Perry’s Passing

Friends remains one of the most beloved and influential sitcoms in the history of the genre. The colorful cast of characters featuring Ross, Rachael, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey captured the hearts and minds of an entire generation of viewers. Matthew Perry passed recently and due to that, ‘Friends’ has now dominated TV streaming charts.

Matthew Perry made a name for himself portraying the role of Chandler Bing in the show and becoming a huge part of pop culture that continues on to his very day. However, Perry has always had battles with alcohol and drug addiction that took their toll on him.

Matthew Perry passed away on October 28. This news broke the hearts of millions of fans who grew up watching ‘Friends.’ According to JustWatch, for the time period between October 30th to November 5th, ‘Friends’ was the top-ranked TV show among American viewers. The show is streaming on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and this viewership is a testament to Matthew Perry’s importance.

JustWatch added that its weekly charts are calculated by user activity within the last seven days, which includes clicking on a streaming offer, adding a title to a watchlist and marking a title as “seen.” The U.S. rankings include data from about 9.3 million users per week. Worldwide, JustWatch has claimed it has around 40 million users across 139 countries. Therefore, this is a major deal for ‘Friends’ for a variety of reasons.

Matthew Perry drowned in the jacuzzi at his Pacific Palisades home last month. Jennifer along with the remaining cast of Friends were present at his funeral to mourn the late actor’s passing. Perry’s contribution to several generations will never be forgotten and that is all that matters.
