‘Rick and Morty’ Co-Creator Justin Roiland Breaks Silence After Domestic Violence Case Dismissed

Justin Roiland, the co-creator and star of the popular animated series “Rick and Morty”, has been cleared of domestic violence charges that were filed against him in 2020. The Orange County District Attorney’s office dismissed the charges on Wednesday, citing “insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Roiland was accused of domestic battery with corporal injury and false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit by a former girlfriend in January 2020. He was arrested in August 2020 and released on a $50,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty to both charges at his arraignment in October 2020.

The news sparked a backlash against Roiland, who was dropped by Adult Swim and Hulu from his voice acting roles in “Rick and Morty” and “Solar Opposites”. He also resigned from his video game studio Squanch Games.

Justin Roiland issued a statement after the domestic violence case was dismissed.

“I have always known that these claims were false — and I never had any doubt that this day would come,” Justin said. “I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process. Most of all, I’m disappointed that so many people were so quick to judge without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex trying to bypass due process and have me ‘canceled.’ That it may have succeeded, even partially, is shameful. However, now that the legal case has ended, I’m determined to move forward and focus both on my creative projects and restoring my good name.”

Roiland is best known for co-creating “Rick and Morty” with Dan Harmon in 2012. The show follows the adventures of a cynical scientist Rick Sanchez and his timid grandson Morty Smith across various dimensions. Roiland voices both characters as well as other supporting roles.

It is unclear if Roiland will resume his voice-acting roles or involvement with Squanch Games after being cleared of the charges. Stay tuned to Thirsty For News as we keep you updated on this story.
