Will Smith played The Genie in Disney’s live-action ‘Aladdin,’ a character formerly portrayed by the legendary Robin Williams in the 1992 animated blockbuster. The first film being so popular, fans wondered whether a sequel would take place as well. It seems a sequel is definitely in the cards right now.
In 2019, Disney brought the beloved animated classic, “Aladdin,” to life in a live-action adaptation, featuring Mena Massoud as the protagonist, Will Smith as the Genie, and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. The film garnered immense popularity and crossed the billion-dollar mark in global box-office revenue.
Following the movie’s resounding success, Disney announced a spinoff series in early 2020, centered around Billy Magnussen’s character from the film, Prince Anders. This new series is a Disney+ Original and is set to explore the adventures of the intriguing Prince.
While speaking with Collider, the first film’s director Guy Ritchie was asked about directing the sequel to the first film. Guy Ritchie made it clear that he would love to direct a sequel and that talks have been going on for the same.
“I’d very much like to. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed that experience. It was a great experience. That whole Disney thing, as you can imagine, is such a professional outfit. Just from that perspective, it was so much fun.”
I would very much like to. We’ll wait and see. We have been kicking some ideas around for some time now, but it’d be great to do. It would be great to go back there.”
Will Smith is also set to make a comeback as the Genie for the second film. We will have to wait and see when the film will release, as fans cannot wait for the second film to come out.
