Johnny Depp rose to fame as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Walt Disney swashbuckler film series Pirates of the Caribbean. There is no question that Captain Jack Sparrow’s role in the development of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is what made it what it is today. However, there are significant barriers preventing Johnny Depp from joining The Walt Disney Company again.
The movie franchise became the first to release two or more films with box office grosses of $1 billion or more, but there have been numerous rumors and reports about the franchise’s potential future without Captain Jack Sparrow.
There have been many rumors about potential developments for the franchise in the future, but the most recent one may be the strangest of them all. Former Pirates actor Jack Davenport recently appeared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he stated that he would love for Disney to “reboot” with a spinoff centered around Commodore Norrington.
“A snowball in hell has a stronger chance of survival than the Commodore Norrington reboot, but sure. Jerry, if you’re watching, which I know you’re not, I’m there. Yes, you can put me back in brigade, I’ll do it.”
Although Davenport acknowledged that the probability of this happening is remote, Disney has previously demonstrated a propensity for bizarre ideas. It would undoubtedly be a storyline that would catch a lot of people’s attention because the company has brought characters back from the dead in other instances, including Marvel and Star Wars.
However, Davenport’s statement regarding a reboot centering on Commodore Norrington, who was Captain Jack Sparrow’s biggest enemy, particularly in the first movie, does make fans wonder what the future of the franchise may hold. Keep an eye on Thirsty For News to get more updates.
