Eminem’s contributions to the world of hip-hop will never be forgotten, as his influence is etched deep in the mind of fans and peers alike. Artists such as Skylar Grey still get starstruck working with him even now. In fact, even his brother believes Eminem was the best role model.
Slim Shady had rough beginnings as he started dirt-poor, living in a trailer park. His growth continues to be a source of inspiration to fans and peers alike, all over the world. His upbringing served to become one of his reasons for success as well.
Nathan Kane Mathers, who is Eminem’s brother, recently spoke on the podcast Just a Little Shady, which is hosted by the rapper’s daughter Hailie Jade Mathers, where he talked about growing up with Eminem.
“He was the best role model I could have had to be the dad that I am today
Nathan, who is roughly 14 years younger than Eminem and once lived with the rapper when he was teenager, also spoke about his own career music and learning to write lyrics from his older brother. He also called Eminem the best role model.
“I started getting into music at a very young age. As I got older and thought about wanting to do it as a career, I had learned from your dad, my brother, on how to do music and how to write formulas, compounds syllables, what not, and tested it out in the beginning, getting comfortable with my voice,” he said.
He continued: “I knew there was going to be a comparison. ‘Hey, how does he sound compared to his brother? Does he have the same formula? Does he have the syllables? Is he a battle rapper? Is he a freestyle? What can he do?…Is he on that level? Can he be above that?’
“And it was never about that. It was more about just having fun and being able to be around music and do something that other people would enjoy.”
Slim Shady has managed to turn his life around and even at his age, he continues to be a huge star in the world of rap. We will have to wait and see what else he has in store for fans.
