8 Mile is a 2002 drama film that includes autobiographical elements from Eminem’s life. The film received several award nominations and wins, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself” win for Eminem. On the heels of the film’s platinum anniversary, Mekhi Phifer has some bad news for 8 Mile fans.

Mekhi Phifer recently advised fans not to waste their time waiting for a sequel, because “it ain’t happening.” TMZ caught up with the 8 Mile star shortly after the iconic film celebrated its 20th anniversary. They asked if there were any plans for a new story involving the original characters.

The 8 Mile star told TMZ Hip Hop that there will never be a sequel to the film, in his opinion. He claimed that it is sometimes best to leave the classics alone. He also confirmed that there has never been any discussion about making one happen.

Mekhi Phifer winner admitted that a sequel could be fascinating from a story standpoint, but he wouldn’t want to be in it, and he doubts his co-star Eminem would either. In terms of their relationship, he claimed they’re still friends and keep in touch.

Mekhi Phifer added that Em is currently working on his music, which is another reason they won’t be coming to 8 Mile Road. Eminem’s music career has experienced ups and downs since the film’s release in November 2002, but he’s still generally known as a hip-hop superstar, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
