Willie Spence was a Season 19 contestant on American Idol. Unfortunately, he was killed in a car accident recently. His family now believes that alcohol played no role in the accident.

TMZ reports that the family of Willie Spence, the “American Idol” runner-up who died in a car accident in Tennessee, does not believe alcohol played a factor. Instead, their theories revolve around his weekend activities. According to family sources, Willie was departing Tennessee State University’s homecoming weekend when the accident occurred.

While others suspected he was driving intoxicated, his family claims the late singer was not a drinker, so that doesn’t fit. The accident happened during the day, not at night. It could be another reason they believe that he was not drunk.

Willie had a long weekend, which could have left him terribly weary, and the family fears he fell asleep at the wheel. Police have yet to determine an official cause for the accident or his death. Willie’s family told the outlet that he was returning to Atlanta to meet with an organization that helps abused and trafficked women.
