Floyd Mayweather is widely regarded as the best defensive boxer of all time, as well as the most accurate puncher since the creation of CompuBox. Mikuru Asakura, on the other hand, has been a professional fighter since 2012, competing for Road Fighting Championship, Fighting Network Rings, and DEEP. Mayweather recently knocked out Asakura.

In the second round of a scheduled three-round exhibition in Saitama, Japan, the undefeated Hall of Famer knocked out Mikuru Asakura. The 30-year-old Japanese MMA fighter was competitive and had his moments, hitting a few eye-catching punches. However, no MMA fighter, even one in his mid-40s, has the boxing ability to compete on an even level with one of the greatest practitioners of the sweet science.

Mayweather has stated that he does not want to trade punches with anyone who has a good chance of hurting him. Asakura, on the other hand, couldn’t hurt him.  The first round was uneventful, as both fighters put out their lead hands to discover their range and delivered power shots only occasionally, mostly to the body.

However, they picked up the pace in Round 2. Mayweather, still quick and observant, started landing right hands to Asakura’s head and added more body shots. Asakura had difficulty hitting Mayweather, but he did score a couple of blows that snapped his head back, which was an uncommon sight. His problem was that he was getting the worst of the encounters.

After a series of accurate strikes to set the groundwork, Mayweather hit one more right that put Asakura to the ground and hurt him. He rose to his knees, where referee Kenny Bayless examined him and determined he was in no condition to continue. Mayweather earned another big payday and appeared to enjoy himself, humbly thanking the Japanese crowd afterward.

I’m happy we were able to give the people excitement tonight. Thanks for having me. I’ll be back.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Mayweather’s opponent Manny Pacquiao was invited by the show’s organizers and spoke in the ring both before and after the main event. Could they be planning a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight? Let’s wait and see what happens. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
