UFC 279 is going down on September 10th, and there is a lot more to talk about other than the brawl that broke out during the media conference.

The event is set to see the send-off for Nate Diaz. He was supposed to go up against undefeated fighter Khamzat Chimaev, but now the weigh-in caused a change in plans.

Chimaev was unable to make weight, so he is out of the fight. Diaz weighed in at 171 pounds, but Chimaev was 178.5. Since he was 7.5 pounds overweight, that disqualified him from the contest.

According to Kevin Lole, it appears that the fight is going to Tony Ferguson now. After that, Chimaev will get a fight against Kevin Holland.

There is no clear resolution to what’s going on at UFC 279. Right now, looking like Diaz-Ferguson, Holland-Chimaev and Jingliang-Rodriguez, but NONE of that is done yet. Many moving parts. Nothing close at this point.

This is a huge change for the UFC 279 card, but fans of MMA should be used to the weigh-in derailing plans. We’ll just have to see how things pan out in the end. Keep checking back with Thirsty for more details.

Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News opened the door for a new opportunity for Jenkins. With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
