The ongoing detention of Brittney Griner in Russia aroused media and public interest on a global scale. The US is fearful for Griner’s safety following her detention in February for trying to smuggle hashish oil into Russia at a time when Russia was invading Ukraine. Griner gave statements for the first time, and one was directly for her wife.

Brittney Griner spoke with the media on Tuesday and informed them she had no complaints about her detention. Also, Griner told her wife back in America, “good luck on the bar exam.” A heartfelt message from the WNBA Star who’s been jailed indefinitely while her trial still looms.

Griner gave a brief but eloquent speech in respect of her wife. But she also had a picture of Cherelle on display depicting good times they had together. Furthermore, Griner wore a shirt that said “Black Lives Are Loved” written on it.

The current drug trial in Russia for Brittney Griner is one instance of the several Americans incarcerated abroad. Paul Whelan, among other Americans, has been detained in Russia since December 2018 on suspicion of espionage. Brittney Griner, though, could spend 10 years behind bars. She plans to testify on the charges soon in an effort to persuade the judge to show mercy.
